Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met Dove van Duivenbode, schrijfster en documentairemaakster. Van Duivenbode schrijft literaire non-fictie en maakt documentaires. Ze studeerde geschiedenis aan de Universiteit Utrecht en werkte voor onder meer NRC Handelsblad, KRO-NCRV en de VPRO. Haar boek Mijn Poolse huis, vakanties naar Auschwitz (2018) werd lovend besproken en bekroond met de Bob Den Uyl Prijs 2019. Deze week verschijnt het boek Oerbos. De strijd om de Europese natuur. Daarin staat de volgende vraag centraal: Hoe moeten we omgaan met de bossen van Midden-Europa? Rond die vraag lopen de gemoederen de laatste jaren hoog op, waarbij Oost- en West-Europese ideeën over de natuur lijnrecht tegenover elkaar staan. Wat willen we het liefste conserveren – bizons, bomen of onze tradities? Waarom werd er onlangs een Roemeense boswachter vermoord? Waar komt al het illegaal gekapte hout eigenlijk terecht? In een poging tot antwoorden te komen neemt Dore van Duivenbode haar intrek in een Pools internaat voor jonge boswachters in opleiding, observeert ze als vrijwilliger in een Nationaal Park wolvendrollen en bizonsporen, en spreekt ze betrokkenen bij het oerbos, van milieuactivisten en wetenschappers tot boswachters, jagers, en oude vrouwtjes die er al hun hele leven paddenstoelen verzamelen. Gaandeweg wordt de reis naar een van de mooiste plekken van Europa een verslag van haar lelijkste uitwassen.
