Een modern verlangen draait om menselijke relaties: tussen geliefden, vrienden, maar ook tussen mens en dier, ouder en kind, mens en ding. De personages in deze veertien verhalen moeten zich soms in moeilijke bochten wringen om door onbegrip en afstand heen te ploeteren, kloven te overbruggen. Daarbij rijst steeds weer de vraag: hoe verhouden wij ons tot elkaar in een soms donkere, labyrintische wereld? En wat vertelt dat ons over onszelf, en onze plek in die wereld?
