Annemieke Bosman praat met regisseur Hans Dortmans over zijn documentaire Palingdans. Eeuwenlang is het niet gelukt. Maar nu de paling met uitsterven bedreigd wordt, krijgt de zoektocht naar het mysterie van haar voortplanting een nieuwe urgentie. Met een expeditie naar de Sargassozee en een laboratorium in Volendam tracht een kleurrijk gezelschap dit raadsel op te lossen. Geeft de paling zijn geheim prijs om gered te worden? In Japan, waar de ‘unagi’ ongekend populair is, is palingliefhebber Kenichi volledig in de ban geraakt van het raadselachtige dier.
