Daarin toont Steenhuis ons het Frankrijk als land van de liefde, van romantische en kleurrijke avonturen vol passie, verleidingskunst, avontuurtjes en bedrog. Aan de hand van bekende romans, dagboeken en historisch onderzoek schetst Henk Steenhuis de geschiedenis van de liefde. De lezer komt meer te weten over het avontuurlijke liefdesleven van Benoîte Groult, generaal Pétain, Valérie Trierweiler, François Hollande, Jacques Chirac, Carla Bruni, Dominique Strauss-Kahn en vele anderen. Henk Steenhuis was werkzaam als journalist in Frankrijk en in Nederland. Van 2000 tot 2009 was hij hoofdredacteur van HP=De Tijd.
