Haar nieuwe roman Toen de val speelt zich af rondom en aan boord van vlucht py 764, die uit Nederland vertrok en op 7 juni 1989 in Zanderij, Suriname verongelukte. Het toestel kwam in de savanne achter de landingsbaan neer en bij deze ramp stierven 176 mensen. De gronden waarop de luchthaven werd gebouwd behoorden ooit toe aan Inheemsen, die wegtrokken met een voorspelling van slechte tijden in gedachten. Iraida Martha Ooft volgt in deze intrigerende roman de uiterst persoonlijke processen die door de dood van geliefden in gang worden gezet.  Iraida Martha Ooft is naast schrijver ook horecaondernemer. Zij schreef eerder de roman Geen weg terug en verscheidene korte verhalen. Non-fictie schrijft ze op Elders Literair, een online tijdschrift, onder de titel Standplaats Paramaribo.
