Louis Andriessen geldt als Nederlandse bekendste en radicaalste componisten. Met het verpleterrende stuk De Staat (1976) schreef hij geschiedenis. Ook andere grotere werken als De Materie en La Commedia gingen de hele wereld over. Jacqueline Oskamp kreeg toegang tot Andriessens privéarchief. dat ondermeer honderden ongepubliceerde brieven omvat. Zij schreef een pakkende biografie waarin ze onvermoede kanten van de componist belicht. Jacqueline Oskamp was jarenlang verbonden aan De Groene Amsterdammer, de Volkskrant en Vrij Nederland. Ze publiceerde meerdere boeken over Nederlandse muziek. In 2025 krijgt ze de Theo Bruins Prijs voor haar verdiensten voor de Nederlandse muziek.  In deze gecombineerde uitzending met NTR Podium wordt er live muziek gespeeld door pianist Ralph van Raat.
