Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met theatermaker Kimberley Agyarko. Agyarko maakt de voorstelling ABROAD, een multimediale voorstelling over ouderschap, offers en heling. Ze schrijft, regisseert en speelt dit intieme familieportret over de complexe relatie tussen ouders en kinderen. En over hoe je soms terug moet gaan om vooruit te kunnen. Nu podcaster Abena bijna dertig wordt, worstelt ze met een aantal grote levensvragen. Ze besluit om terug te reizen naar haar geboorteland Ghana om haar moeder op te zoeken die ze vijftien jaar niet heeft gezien. Voor ze vertrekt moet ze deze keuze met haar vader delen, de man die haar al die jaren alleen heeft opgevoed. ABROAD is een verhaal van twee generaties die botsen, ieder met hun eigen pijn en verwachtingen. Kimberley Agyarko studeerde in 2020 af aan de Toneelacademie in Maastricht. Direct na haar afstuderen speelde zij in de Bellevue Lunchtheatervoorstelling Ik voel Amor (regie Eva Line de Boer) en was daarna te zien in producties van onder anderen Het Nationale Theater en Toneelmakerij.
