Annemieke Bosman praat met schrijver Koen Caris over zijn tweede roman Stad O. Overal nemen schaarste en armoede toe, behalve in Stad O. Hier genieten de inwoners tal van privileges: volle schappen, grote woningen en royale salarissen. Iedereen behoort er tot de elite, dankzij de fabriek Martha waarvoor het stadje is gebouwd. Bethe en Tobias, een stel met een kinderwens, wentelen zich in hun perfecte leven. Maar gaandeweg ontdekt Bethe dat er onverklaarbare dingen gebeuren. De fabriek lijkt gevaren met zich mee te brengen en als ze op onderzoek uitgaat, stuit ze op een muur van geheimen, onwil en angst. Terwijl Tobias hun luxueuze bestaan wil beschermen, vraagt Bethe zich steeds sterker af: is dit nog wel de plek om een toekomst te bouwen? Stad O. schetst een samenleving waarin welvaart en veiligheid om voorrang strijden, een wereld waar we in razend tempo op af lijken te denderen. Koen Caris (1988) is theater- en hoorspelschrijver. Hij schreef voor onder andere BNNVARA, VPRO, Theater Bellevue, Hummelinck Stuurman Theaterbureau en De Hoorspelfabriek. Zijn werk werd genomineerd voor de Zilveren Reissmicrofoon en de Prix Europa. In 2017 ontving hij het TheaterTekstTalent Stipendium van het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Zijn debuutroman Stenen eten (2021) werd bekroond met de Hebban Debuutprijs. Stad O., de opvolger van Stenen eten, is verschenen in oktober 2025.
