Een selectie van bijna 70 werken van over de hele wereld laat zien hoe de al eeuwen oude lakkunst zich in het begin van de 20ste eeuw opnieuw uitvindt: van traditionele dromerige voorstellingen in goud, zilver en zwart, transformeert lakwerk zich tot een kunstvorm met sprekende kleuren en sterke ontwerpen. Menno Fitski stelde de tentoonstelling 'Modern Japans Lak' samen met Jan Dees, specialist op het gebied van de Japanse lakkunst.
