Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met Merijn de Boer. Zijn nieuwe boek Lieve Hannibal komt deze week uit. Merijn de Boer werkte als redacteur voor een uitgeverij, tot zijn vrouw als diplomaat werd uitgezonden naar New York. De Boer zegde zijn baan op en ging zich helemaal op het schrijven richten. Met hun dochter van zes maanden belandt de familie in een appartement op de 38ste verdieping van een flatgebouw op Manhattan. Na New York verhuisden ze naar Jeruzalem en een paar jaar later naar Tunesië. In de verhalen in Lieve Hannibal beschrijft De Boer hoe het is om als schrijver in het buitenland te wonen. Net als in zijn geliefde romans De Saamhorigheidsgroep en Het Surinamedagboek weet hij als geen ander tragiek aan humor te koppelen en valt er naast veel te ontdekken ook veel te glimlachen om zijn belevenissen.
