Shulas Tas in gesprek met Mirjam Marks. Marks maakte voor de VPRO de vierdelige jeugddocumentaire Helden van de Galaxy uit eind deze maand te zien is op televisie. In deze serie volgen we vijf kinderen die tijdelijk wonen op een azc-schip in de haven van Amsterdam. Vanuit hun eigen perspectief ziet de kijker hoe zij omgaan met de onzekerheid van hun situatie, het wennen aan een nieuw land en het opbouwen van vriendschappen. Juist door hun verbeeldingskracht en onderlinge band weten ze houvast te vinden. Mirjam Marks ging na haar studie Theaterwetenschappen bij VPRO Jeugd werken en specialiseerde zich in het ontwikkelen en realiseren van jeugddocumentaire(series). Van 1998-2011 woonde ze in Suriname, waar ze verschillende documentaires maakte. Terug in Nederland was ze naast documentairemaker ook programmeur bij Cinekid. Sinds 2018 ontwikkelt ze samen met en voor Stichting de Vrolijkheid projecten met kinderen en jongeren op asielzoekerscentra. In 2023 zond de VPRO haar jeugddocumentaire-serie Kinderen van Mavungu uit.
