Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met schrijfster en biograaf Mirjam van Hengel. Volgende week verschijnt het boek 'Dola. Over haar schrijverschap en de hele mikmak', een boek over het leven en werk van de Amerikaans-Nederlandse schrijfster Dola de Jong. Het boek is een zoektocht die leidde langs Dola’s vrijzinnige Amsterdamse jaren, de vlucht voor Hitler naar Tanger en haar broze eenzaamheid in de straten van New York. Er ontvouwde zich een leven van onverwoestbare energie en diep verdriet: het verhaal van een vrouw die wilde schrijven, met een aantal boeken groot succes had, maar het boek dat ze écht wilde maken nooit voltooide. Mirjam van Hengel schreef eerder Een knipperend ogenblik. Portret van Remco Campert (2018), dat genomineerd werd voor de Bookspot Literatuurprijs en bekroond met de Henriëtte de Beaufortprijs 2022. Eerder verscheen Hoe mooi alles (2014), over de liefde tussen Leo en Tineke Vroman. Van Hengel was redacteur, maakt literaire programma’s en schrijft voor onder meer de Volkskrant en De Groene Amsterdammer.
