Annemieke Bosman gaat met schrijver Nisrine Mbarki Ben Ayad in gesprek over haar nieuwste boek Kookpunt. Kookpunt is het verhaal van een eeuw: van 1961 in Algerije tot 2061 in Amsterdam. Het is een eeuw die herhaaldelijk zelfmoord pleegt en zichzelf opnieuw uitvindt. Zeven verhalen, in zeven decennia, op verschillende plekken in de wereld, maar de schakelmomenten in de geschiedenis verbinden al deze mensen met elkaar. De nucleaire tests van de Fransen in de Algerijnse Sahara zorgen ervoor dat Ydder zijn grote liefde verliest. Maar ook dat hij Salma die uit Damascus vluchtte ontmoet. Die in Belleville met Bern trouwt. Die jaren later bij de crypte in de Pieterskerk in Utrecht vanuit het dodenrijk door haar wordt geroepen. Onzichtbare draden van het menselijke tekort spannen over de hele wereld. Niets in de geschiedenis blijft zonder gevolgen, alles werkt generaties door.
