Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met dramaturge Paulien Geerlings, en schrijfster Melissa Knollenburg. Geerlings en Knollenburg schreven samen de tekst voor de nieuwe familie voorstelling Kantjil en de tijger: een muzikale reis over een verborgen Indische familiegeschiedenis. Een coproduktie van de Toneelmakerij en Oorkaan in samenwerking met Studio Figur. Indra’s oma Billy is ziek. In haar kleine woonkamer zit de hele familie te wachten om afscheid van haar te nemen. Maar dan blijkt oma een laatste wens te hebben die alles op z’n kop zet. De jonge Indra schiet haar te hulp en voor ze het weet, kukelt ze een verborgen geschiedenis in. Gelukkig maakt ze kennis met sidekick Kantjil, een magisch Javaans dwerghert met de zwarte band. Samen puzzelen ze oma’s verleden bij elkaar. Kun je te oud zijn om vroeger nog een plek te geven? Of te jong voor de geschiedenis van je eigen familie? In Kantjil en de tijger ontmoet Indra vijf generaties vrouwen en ontdekt wat haar Javaanse afkomst voor haar betekent. Door naar de herinneringen van haar voormoeders te kijken, komt ze erachter dat een geschiedenis die altijd ver weg leek, nog heel dichtbij is en voorleeft in haar. De voorstelling is ook een pleidooi voor gesprekken over de koloniale geschiedenis in voormalig Nederlands-Indië, zowel thuis als op school. Kantjil en de tijger laat zien hoe een familie tot elkaar komt, door samen te herinneren en zo het verleden een plek te geven.
