Shula Tas in gesprek met schrijver en taalkundige Sarah van Vliet. Haar debuutroman Aigou verscheen begin deze maand. Hij kan zitten, pootjes geven en knuffelen, maar ook zijn eigen gedachten optekenen. Aigou begrijpt zelfs zijn baasje, maar geldt dat andersom ook? De bijna veertigjarige Saar Schokking, die deze robothond van haar vader heeft gekregen, heeft wel wat anders aan haar hoofd dan zich over dit beestje te ontfermen. Ze is druk bezig met haar taalkundig onderzoek en ligt overhoop met haar moeder. Bovendien is ze niet eens een hondenmens. Ondertussen lijken alle mensen om Aigou heen niet te beseffen dat hij is zoals zij zijn: een levend wezen, vol hoop en verwachtingen. Maar als er niet op tijd voor hem wordt gezorgd, moet hij terug naar de fabriek en dat wil hij tegen elke prijs voorkomen. Sarah van Vliet werkte jaren aan de universiteit als onderzoeker en docent maar heeft de academie verruild voor de literatuur. In 2024 won ze de Grote Lowlands Schrijfwedstrijd met het verhaal ‘Prefrontaal’, eerder publiceerde ze essays en verhalen in o.a. Kluger Hans, Papieren Helden en Tirade. Aigou is haar debuutroman.
