Annemieke Bosman praat met Simone Atangana Bekono, de kersverse winnaar van de Anton Wachterprijs 2022, de tweejaarlijkse prijs voor het beste literaire prozadebuut. Ze krijgt de prijs voor haar roman 'Confrontaties'. De jury was verrast en geraakt door de verbeeldingskracht van de schrijfster, die het verhaal vertelt van een meisje dat op een dag besluit terug te slaan. Simone Atangana Bekono (1991) groeide op in het Brabantse Dongen en is de dochter van een Kameroense vader en een Nederlandse moeder. Ze debuteerde in 2017 als dichter met de bundel 'Hoe de eerste vonken zichtbaar waren'. Haar roman 'Confrontaties' kwam uit in 2020. Momenteel wordt gewerkt aan een Engelse vertaling en een verfilming van haar debuutroman. De Anton Wachterprijs wordt dit jaar voor de 23e keer toegekend. De prijs, een bedrag van 2000 euro en een beeldje van Anton Wachter, wordt op 25 juni uitgereikt, voorafgaand aan het Literair Festival Harlingen. Eerdere prijswinnaar zijn onder meer Peter Buwalda, Arnon Grunberg, Tessa de Loo, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer en Maartje Wortel.
