Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met Stanley Burleson, regisseur, musicalster, en choreograaf. Stanley Burleson regisseert de produktie Boni – de Musical. Het vertelt het mythische levensverhaal van Boni en zijn strijd tegen de slavernij in Suriname. Boni groeit uit tot de leider in een lang verbitterde verzet tegen het Nederlandse regime. In deze nieuwe musical gaat het publiek terug naar de 18e eeuw, met zang, spoken word, rap en soul. Boni – de Musical gaat over een wonde in de tijd, verraad, verzet, liefde en broederschap. De slavernij werd in Suriname door de tot slaaf gemaakte mensen niet lijdzaam ondergaan, maar kent juist een lange geschiedenis van verzet. Diep verscholen in de jungle weet Boni zich bijna onaantastbaar, onvindbaar en onsterfelijk te maken. Samen met zijn medestanders Jolicoeur en Baron vormt dit trio een heftige bedreiging voor de kolonisten. De zogeheten Boni-oorlogen (1765 – 1793) gaan de geschiedenis in als de eerste succesvolle poging om de ijzeren greep van de bezetter te breken. Musicalduizendpoot Stanley Burleson begon zijn carrière in de musical Cats en speelde daarna o.a. grote rollen in Les Misérables, Elisabeth, Beauty And The Beast, Evita, Miss Saigon , We will Rock you en Alladin. Burleson deed de choreografie voor meerdere televisieprogramma’s en theatershows zoals Was Getekend, Annie M.G, Zodiac en The Adams Family. Sinds enkele jaren regisseert hij ook voorstellingen waaronder de productie SLÄPSTICK.
