Brecht van Hulten praat met tekenaar Tobi Dahmen over zijn graphic novel Columbusstraat. “Papa, hoe was het eigenlijk voor je in de oorlog? Hoe heeft dit kunnen gebeuren?” De Duitse stripmaker Tobi Dahmen, die al jaren in Utrecht woont, ontsluit in graphic novel Columbusstraat een aangrijpend familieverleden in oorlogstijd. Op basis van historische documenten en persoonlijke getuigenissen van zijn familie schetst hij een oorlogsgeschiedenis die veel verder reikt dan het persoonlijke. Tachtig jaar na het eind van de Tweede Wereldoorlog werpt hij een indrukwekkende blik op de impact van het nationaalsocialisme die indringende vragen oproept over politieke en persoonlijke verantwoordelijkheid. Met veel gevoel en nauwgezet onderzoek creëert Dahmen een werk met emotionele diepgang en historische relevantie. Het boek was een enorm succes in Duitsland en kreeg veel lof. De Rolling Stone noemde het "De beste en belangrijkste graphic novel van het jaar."
