Brecht van Hulten praat met architect en stedenbouwkundige Violette Schönberger over haar boek Paradijs van Imperfectie. Architecten ontwerpen het decor van andermans leven. Dat is een verantwoordelijkheid die vraagt om reflectie en een levendig publiek gesprek. Maar in het Nederlandse publieke debat is er weinig aandacht voor architectonische vraagstukken. Discussies gaan zelden over hoe de stad wordt ervaren, wat het betekent in een steeds drukkere stad te leven of wat het karakter is van de plekken waar we willen wonen en werken. Dat moet anders, betoogt architect en stedenbouwkundige Violette Schönberger. Architectuur heeft een groot cultureel-maatschappelijk belang; het is immers het enige vakgebied waarin de stand van de samenleving een concrete ruimtelijke vertaling krijgt. Violette Schönberger is architect en stedenbouwkundige. Na haar studie aan de TUDelft werkte ze gedurende vijftien jaar als ontwerper voor verschillende architectenbureaus en voor de gemeente Rotterdam. Momenteel vormt ze samen met Tim Peeters FALSEWORK, een kritisch en oplossingsgericht ontwerpbureau met een brede blik op architectuur en stedenbouw. Violette gaf gedurende zes jaar les aan de KULeuven en is regelmatig gastdocent aan de Rotterdamse Academie van Bouwkunst. Ze schrijft columns over architectuur en stedenbouw op haar eigen platform www.fromscratch.work en voor Architectenweb en andere vakmedia. Ook was ze in 2022 gedurende enkele weken gastcolumnist voor de digitale Volkskrant. In 2019 won haar essay ‘Paradijs van imperfectie’ de Geert Bekaertprijs voor de architectuurkritiek.
