Annemieke Bosman praat met regisseur Wim van der Aar over zijn film Warnow, reis naar het Noorderlicht. In 2013 begint een groep van acht idealistische avonturiers plus een hond aan een spannende reis: ze willen ondanks hun geringe zeilervaring met hun zelf opgeknapte boot Warnow de oversteek naar Noorwegen maken om het Noorderlicht te zien. De reis begint vol goede moed, maar een heftige storm zorgt voor tweedracht onder de vrienden. Uiteindelijk besluiten vijf van hen af te haken en naar huis te gaan. Wat op dat moment een moeilijke keuze lijkt, krijgt later een diepere betekenis wanneer blijkt dat de overgebleven drie avonturiers nooit meer terugkeren. Warnow - Reis naar het Noorderlicht reconstrueert nu - tien jaar later - het verloop van de noodlottige zeereis aan de hand van interviews met de overgebleven vrienden, tijdens de reis gefilmd materiaal en getuigenissen van de mensen die zij onderweg tegenkwamen. Wat begon als een avontuurlijk jongensboek vol vriendschap en uitdagingen, ontaardt in een aangrijpend drama over de impact van verlies en de prijs van loyaliteit.
