Het Spoor Terug, De Romanovs, deel 2

Honderd jaar geleden kwam er met de Russische Revolutie een eind aan meer dan drie eeuwen absolute macht van de Russische Romanov-dynastie. Dit wordt herdacht met een tentoonstelling in de Hermitage in Amsterdam en met een tweeluik in Het spoor terug. Michal Citroen maakte met de Hermitage een reis langs Moskou, Jekaterinenburg en St. Petersburg op onderzoek naar resten van en de hernieuwde belangstelling in het huidige Rusland voor de laatste familie Romanov, tsaar Nicolaas II, zijn vrouw, vier dochters en een dertienjarige erfgenaam. Het inmiddels heilig verklaarde gezin werd in juli 1918 in Jekaterinenburg door de Bolsjewieken geëxecuteerd.
