Gezongen of opgedreund, als geheugensteuntje, om de graven van Holland te onthouden. De derde Dikkie was Dirk III, graaf van West-Frisia die in 1018 in de Slag bij Vlaardingen het leger van de Duitse keizer versloeg en daarmee de grondslag legde voor het gewest Holland. Dit jaar is het 1000 jaar geleden en de slag wordt groots herdacht in Vlaardingen. Maar wat gebeurde er nu eigenlijk? Hoe leefden de mensen? Wat aten ze? Waarop zijn de verhalen van de Slag van Vlaardingen gebaseerd? Gerard Leenders en Lars van der Bel probeerden het uit te zoeken en maakten de documentaire ‘De slag bij Vlaardingen’.
