De Siciliaanse familieleden van Gabriella Adèr vinden al snel hun weg in Rotterdam, waar ze belanden in een biotoop van Italiaanse migranten. Het zijn jaren van nieuwe vrienden, feestjes in het Italiaanse centrum en optredens van Italiaanse bands in de Rotterdamse disco. Toch brengt de migratie ook spanningen in het gezin met zich mee: tussen de ouders en de kinderen, maar ook tussen de kinderen onderling. Gabriella zoekt uit waar die spanningen vandaan komen en waarom ze ruim veertig jaar later zorgden voor een breuk in het gezin.
