Het is een bizar gezicht: een degelijk Beiers huis met après-ski-allure midden in het Tanzaniaanse oerwoud. In natuurpark Amani in noordoost Tanzania barst het er van. Het is de tastbare nalatenschap van de Duitse kolonisten, die tot na de Eerste Wereldoorlog een groot plantage-imperium hadden opgebouwd. Het Duitse verleden werkt tot op heden door bij de lokale bevolking. Het heersende idee is dat ze na hun vertrek in 1918 alle bezittingen hebben begraven - en dat ze nog steeds ergens moeten liggen. Verschillende groepen gravers zoeken al jaren naar de mythische Duitse schatten.
