Hiring women in science, poison gas and you can name Pluto

from Lost in Science · host Beth Askham, Chris Lassig and Stu Burns

A recent paper suggests that there is no discrimination against women at the hiring stage of a science job. We discuss what these findings might mean and talk about other reasons why women choose not to go further in science careers. With the centenary of World War l upon us, Stu talks about why this war is called the chemists war and the chemical processes and poisonous gases that were used at this time. We talk to researcher Dr Alice Gorman from Flinders University who is a space archaeologist. She talks about how you can participate in a crowd-naming campaign to name features on Pluto. Alice talks about her favourite names suggested for Pluto's features, including a Yolngu word and a Monkey Magic reference.
