Als je als docent aan de slag wilt in Turkije krijg je een school aangewezen waar je vier jaar moet werken. Met een beetje geluk zit je in het bruisende Istanbul, maar als je pech hebt word je gestationeerd in een ondergesneeuwde uithoek van het land. De hoofdpersoon uit de Turkse film ‘About Dry Grasses’ behoort tot die laatste categorie. In deze 3,5 uur durende arthouse film laat regisseur Nuri Bilge Ceylan, de schoonheid én eenzaamheid van zijn land zien. En volgens fotograaf en hoofdredacteur van HUMAN Ahmet Polat, moet je juist deze film kijken om Turkije een beetje te begrijpen.
