De afgelopen jaren haalde de Russische berichtenservice met regelmaat het nieuws. De oprichter, Pavel Doerov, zegt er niets aan te kunnen doen. Sterker nog, hij is trots op de absolute vrijheid en anonimiteit die Telegram biedt. Waar bij ons in Nederland Telegram vooral gebruikt wordt voor criminele activiteiten, wordt het platform in landen waar autoritaire regimes aan de macht zijn ingezet door de oppositie en activisten om zich te organiseren. Ook voor journalisten is Telegram een handige bron van informatie.
