Hold This Light
from The Long Road · host Ron Jones
This show is about the deeper value of growing up in an era when I was required (and motivated) to "hold the light" for my father while he was working on projects like car maintenance, home remodeling, or camping excursions. While some of the specific skills I observed then are a bit fuzzy now, the real point of the show is to underscore the importance of developing this sort of hands-on analog physicality with your children as you get them to "hold your light" for today's projects. If you are not yet into "doing things yourself," there has been an increase in classes, training, and video tutorials on how to do stuff with your hands--cars, gardening, home projects, woodworking, metal fabrication, etc. Yes, it will help YOU--but if your kids hold your light...just think of how far this will go instead of them texting more and playing another 20 hours of video games.
