How I Healed Through Community

from Julie Marvel Podcast · host Julie Marvel

Welcome back to the Julie Marvel Podcast. In this episode, I share the story of how a difficult season in my own life unexpectedly led to something much bigger than I ever imagined. After my divorce, I found myself looking for connection and community. What started as a simple lunch with a few women eventually grew into a community of thousands. Along the way, I had the opportunity to sit across from women from all walks of life and hear their stories. What surprised me most was how similar many of those stories were. Women who appeared to have everything together were often carrying private struggles. Some were navigating divorce, some were facing an empty nest, some were grieving, retiring, relocating, or simply wondering what was next for them. Again and again, I heard women express the same feelings of loneliness, uncertainty, and the desire for deeper connection.I also talk about one of my favorite programs we created called What's Your Story. Women would courageously share a challenging experience from their lives, and then we would break into small groups for meaningful conversations. Those discussions created a space where women felt safe enough to be honest about what they were going through. What happened in those rooms was remarkable. Women realized they weren't alone. They discovered that others had faced similar challenges, asked similar questions, and carried many of the same fears. Friendships formed, healing began, and women often left feeling lighter simply because someone finally understood what they had been carrying. One of the greatest lessons from those years is that there is incredible power in being seen, heard, and understood. Sometimes the thing we need most is not advice. It's connection. It's knowing there are other women walking a similar path.If you're going through a transition right now, I hope this episode reminds you that you're not the only one trying to figure things out. Whatever chapter you're in, there are other women asking the same questions and looking for the same sense of purpose, belonging, and hope.If this conversation resonates with you, I would love to invite you to join me for Your Next Chapter Live, a free online event for women navigating life's transitions.Whether you're moving through divorce, an empty nest, retirement, relocation, grief, caregiving, or simply feeling called toward something new, this conversation is for you.
