How Individual Amino Acids Impact Food Cravings, Depression and Anxiety with Sarah Bingham

from Reawaken Your Health Podcast · host Dr. Amy Novotny

Our mood can often swing daily or we get into a funk and don't know how to get out of it.  We frequently attribute it to hormones or the stressors in our lives, blaming it on something we can't control.  But, what if our mood and attitude are related to what we eat?   For this week's episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour show, we learned about the power of individual amino acids and how they can impact food cravings, depression, attitude, anxiety and more.  Certified nutrition consultant (licensed in Florida) and certified GAPS practitioner, Sarah Bingham shares with us how a deficiency in common amino acids in our food can affect our brain chemistry (neurotransmitters) which affects our mood.   We discussed the correlation between mental health disorders and eating sugar and white flour, and why this relationship is important.  Sarah then explained what amino acids are and how they impact the neurotransmitters in our brain.   There is testing available to see if you are deficient in one of the five main amino acids and the results are immediate if you are deficient in one of them.  Sarah explains this process and the journey people experience when their amino acid levels are corrected.    Luckily, amino acid therapy is a process that can last just a few months.  Once the body learns how to produce the neurotransmitters in the correct amounts, the supplements can often be removed.    Sarah discusses the importance of working with a provider since too much of a certain type of amino acid can also be detrimental to your health.  Her success stories are unbelievable!.   Sarah co-authored the book Food Allergies: A Self Help Guide, ran her own nutrition consulting practice for 13 years and was a regular guest on National Public Radio. She has worked as part of a team in several medical practices using a multi-faceted approach to heal conditions such as depression, anxiety, obesity, autoimmune disorders, learning disabilities, behavioral issues in children and chronic fatigue.   Please join us to learn how amino acids found in food can really impact your mood, attitude and can transform your life when in the correct amount.   To reach Sarah, please visit fastfoodhealing.com.  UPDATE:  Sadly, Sarah passed away in 2023 due to a sudden illness.   -Dr. Amy   Subscribe to PABR Institute's email list for free Tips for Relief: https://pabrinstitute.activehosted.com/f/1   www.pabrinstitute.com
