Human Trafficking is often thought of as something that only happens in foreign countries, or to those who are uneducated, perhaps poor. These are dangerous concepts to hold on to. My next guest grew up in suburbia in an idyllic neighbourhood. A straight A student, self-described nerd, a young activist, no one would have thought Alexandra Stevenson would end up the victim of human sex trafficking, especially Alexandra who only came to realize she was trafficked 10 years after her escape from her groomer. It’s a harrowing story with a lot of lessons we all need to sit up and pay attention to. In the podcast Alexandra shares how sex assault as a child led her straight into the arms of a trafficker as a late teen. She also shares the five stages of grooming, something we should all know how to identify, and what it’s like to parent young children with CPTSD.
