How the Death of Local Media Is a Benefit to Criminals

from Walter Rhein Podcast · host Walter Rhein and Untrickled by Michelle Teheux

Hello Friends,Well, this was a great talk. Untrickled by Michelle Teheux is one of the best publications on Substack. Michelle is a former editor of a local paper, and in this conversation she discusses her experiences as a dedicated, stressed out, underpaid reporter. You can tell how passionate she is about the job and how much she wishes she could do it again. Unfortunately the “old fashioned news room” is becoming a thing of the past.During the course of our talk, I came to realize how the death of local media has contributed to the polarization of America and the proliferation of criminality. The simple fact is that there are no reporters checking out the weird little bungalow that politicians rent in some “off the beaten path” rural area. Nobody is knocking on any doors to ask questions.Everybody says, “Well… newspapers are just trying to make money.” But it’s becoming more and more clear that profit can’t be a justification for everything. Exploiting labor is profitable, but it’s also evil.Imagine if we lived in a society where billions of dollars were allocated to support independent journalists instead of gestapo ICE agents. But if that happened, we’d have accountability for criminals rather than just punishment for political opponents. It’s getting tougher and tougher to find a place where you can get an authentic perspective. I salute Michelle for the work she’s doing. You can follow her here:I hope you enjoyed this talk! Please support me in whatever way that you are able!
