How to Work at Home with Kids During the Covid-19 Pandemic Bonus Ep 02

from Video Visibility with Alicia

Over the last 14 days, it hasn't been business as usual for many of us who work at home with kids.  Some of us haven't worked at home with kids for a while because they've been going for day. Now we've had this unexpected interruption.    My kids have been out of school for a week and if you're like me and you have never home schooled or home educated you find yourself in the midst of juggling all of the household, business role, mom and now teacher roles into one.  Times are uncertain, however how you run your business shouldn't be.  In today's podcast episode I'm sharing how to work at home with kids during the Coronavirus Pandemic.   This is my Summertime modified schedule that has worked for me over the last 11 years as a business owner. Establish a Routine Every morning I try and stick to a morning routine.  In fact, my kids have several routines that I repeat daily (several times a day Morning, afterschool and night time).  We have a Kids thrive and do best with routines. At school they have daily routines. In our house we have a morning routine so we can get out of the door on time and I can start my day with the baby and my clients. Kids have routines at school whether they stay in one class with one teacher all day or they go from class to class like my middle schooler.   Put a Schedule In place Schedules keep me on track. I know what I'm doing and when I'm doing them.  My schedule isn't the same every day due to appointments, modified schools days and client work.  But now since the COVID-19 is here I've had to adjust my schedule accordingly. A schedule will keep you sane during this unexpected interruption in your daily schedule.   This image is a sample of my schedule I created. Take Breaks  Breaks are so important. When you feel yourself getting frustrated or needing an energy boost, a break will help with that. Breaks give you a reboot. Take a walk and enjoy the outdoors if the weather is nice  (practice social distancing of course). Read a book for fun, give your kids some quiet down time or take a power nap. Have a dedicated work space. Give yourself and your kids a dedicated space to work and do art projects.  This way, you won't have a lot of clutter everywhere. The kids will know where to do their school work.  No more crayons, playdoh, glitter and worksheets + your work all over the place. We use our dining room table where my kids do their school work. Give yourself grace The Coronavirus is something that we haven't deal with in at least the last 50 years.  No one expected to deal with this. So of course, to keep us all healthy and to quickly flatten the curve we have to social distance.  When the kids are bouncing off the walls and you're trying to get work done, remember, so many moms and parents that work from home are in the same boat. I hope these tips on the podcast and this brief run down will help you as we all try to work at home with kids and navigate our way through the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).
