Recently I learned a new phrase. Hurkle-durkle is a Scottish term that means lingering in bed, staying under the covers a little longer, even after you’re awake.Hurkle-durkle, seen through faith, is an invitation to remain.Before the day demands anything of us, God is already present, unhurried, attentive, near. Those quiet moments, when the world hasn’t started pulling yet, become sacred ground. We learn that rest is not resistance to obedience; it is preparation for it. When we linger with God first, we rise not just awake, but aligned.Do not condemn yourself or allow shame to steal those extra minutes of meditation, of quiet snuggling before getting up. Let grace invade that space so you can truly enjoy that extra time that heals and adds readiness to your spirit.In a world that rushes us out of bed and into performance, lingering for a moment under warm covers can be an act of grace. Sometimes we don’t need to move faster; we need to listen longer, breathe deeper, and remember that even stillness can be sacred.Scripture reminds us in Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God” Rest is not laziness, it's a PAUSE!
