It was unexpected. We didn’t predict it. It caught us off guard.Examples:1- She thought the conversation was just casual. Then suddenly, the other person apologized for something that happened years ago. She listened quietly and thought,  “I didn’t see that coming.”2- He assumed he hadn’t done well in the interview. Days passed with no news. Then an email arrived saying, “We’d like to offer you the position.” He stared at the screen and said, “I didn’t see that coming.”
