I Got a Mammogram & Want to Know Why Medicine Hates Women

I got a mammogram yesterday and I need to talk about this. The best we’ve come up with for breast cancer screening is crushing it flat and taking a picture. The speculum was invented by a man who experimented on enslaved women without anesthesia. The full clitoris wasn’t mapped until 1998 - one woman did it because her textbooks devoted pages to the penis and one page to the clitoris. Gray’s Anatomy included it in 1901 and then removed it. OB/GYN textbooks didn’t add clitoral nerve anatomy until 2019. Menopause affects half the population and medical training barely covers it. OB-GYNs are fleeing abortion ban states. And the Surgeon General nominee has an inactive medical license. This is what happens when men who have never experienced consequences make decisions for everyone else.
