"I think I'm not eating enough?" Is that the reason I'm not losing weight? Let me explain...

from Once you know, you know! · host Lyndsey Parkinson

In this episode of Once you know, you know!, I talk about the common misconception that "not eating enough" is the reason behind stalled weight loss efforts.   The concept of caloric deficits and how weight loss fundamentally boils down to consuming fewer calories than the body expends. However, sustained caloric restriction can lead to metabolic adaptation, where the body adjusts by slowing down metabolism, making further weight loss challenging which is a little more complex than assuming your body is going into "starvation mode"  I also discuss the psychological aspects, highlighting how strict calorie deficits can trigger feelings of deprivation, social pressures, and emotional eating tendencies. These factors can undermine adherence to a calorie deficit and lead to unsustainable eating habits.  I explain the importance of muscle mass in weight loss success, explaining how muscle tissue burns more calories at rest and during exercise, contributing to faster fat loss. However, severe calorie restriction can lead to loss of lean muscle mass, further complicating weight loss efforts.  By understanding these complexities and adopting sustainable lifestyle changes, individuals can achieve their weight loss goals effectively and maintain long-term success.
