July 31 is the Feast day of the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits religious Order) and a former soldier who created The Spiritual Exercises (composed 1522–4) a set of Christian meditations, contemplations, and prayers written by St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556, died on July 31). Saint Ignatius was a Spanish Catholic priest and theologian who dedicated his fascinating and adventurous life to being a soldier for Christ and leader of the Jesuits, which sent Priests to North America on a mission to evangelize the natives.
