IIFYM- If It Fits Your Macros/Flexible Dieting. Good Or Bad For Sustainable Health/Physique?
from Optimise Your Body with Martin Silva · host Optimise Your Body with Martin Silva
Episode 16 featuring Fitness Expert Andrew Bond. In case you are wondering what 'IIFYM' is, it stands for 'If It Fits Your Macros'. This movement also goes by the name of 'flexible dieting'. Now to break it down for you IIFYM is what a lot of Fitness/Nutrition Coaches are prescribing for their clients, the IIFYM message is: Hit the right number of calories/macros based on your goals and you can essentially eat any foods you want. This is not to say that some coaches out there still promote healthy, whole foods to there clients but in terms of what I have seen on social media IIFYM is giving off the wrong message because a calorie is not just a calorie. Andrew and I are avid fans of focusing on nutrients instead of becoming obsessed with counting calories. Now don't get me wrong obviously the amount of calories you hit are paramount regardless of your goals but eating whole nutrient dense food sources most of the time will ensure you achieve optimal health and the lean body you desire long term. Most of the IIFYM crew are promoting shitty foods and just using this flexible diet method as an excuse to compliment the eating disorder they have ie eating shitty foods daily. Andrew and I have experienced borderline eating disorders ourselves so this episode is definitely worth a listen if you are looking to get in shape, fit and healthy.
