♦ All’inizio degli anni ’70 del secolo scorso, l’allora presidente Anwar Sadat inaugurò il primo tunnel passante sotto il Canale di Suez come primo collegamento via terra con il Sinai. Il tunnel autostradale è lungo 4,8 km. Ci vollero 16 mesi per costruirlo. Furono assunti 2.000 operai, inclusi 85 specialisti britannici.
