Andrew Tshabangu was born in 1966, Johannesburg, South Africa, where he currently lives and works. With a career spanning more than 20 years, Tshabangu studied photography at the Alexandra Community Art Centre (1990) and photojournalism at the Institute of Advancement for Journalism (1998). He did freelance work for New Nation in the 1990s as well as taught photography at the Children’s Photography Workshop (1995) and at the Market Photo Workshop (1998-1999). Tshabangu has facilitated photographic workshops in Kenya, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Mozambique, Réunion Islands and Guyana, adding to taken up residencies in Réunion Islands, London, New York and Nairobi. His work has been exhibited widely in Africa, Europe, the US and Japan.
