Intellectual vs Adopative Functioning with Dr. Kathryn Page

from Living with FASD · host Patricia Kasper

Living with FASD is a human interest and educational show for those living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, and the people who support them, by someone with both professional and living experience with an FASD. This week on Living with FASD, my Candid Conversation is once again with Dr. Kathryn Page, one of my very favorite people. Dr. Page co-hosted the first three episodes of Living with FASD and she has worked in the FASD community for decades, both as a clinician and as a trainer. Though retired, Dr. Page continues to give of herself to the FASD community, and I am always delighted when she joins me at the mic. In today’s episode, we delve into intellectual vs adaptive functioning. Part of the misconceptions about FASD surround assumptions that one must be intellectually challenged to have an FASD. While FASD is indeed the leading cause of intellectual disabilities, this assumption is far from the truth. We discuss a variety of challenges in adaptive functioning as well as strategies that can be implemented for support. You can reach Dr. Page at: [email protected] You can reach me, Patti Kasper, at [email protected] Please like, follow/subscribe and share, and feel free to leave me comments within Spotify or YouTube.
