Here's a principle for you: as human beings made in the image of God, we don't live life based on the facts of our experience. We live life based on our interpretation of the facts. Every human being is a philosopher, every human being is a theologian, every human being is an archaeologist, who will dig through the mount of his existence to make sense out of life and the way you interpret life will form why you do the things you do, why you say the things you say.
