Interview with Andrew Russell - 1709

Born in Cape Town South Africa, Andrew learned lessons that no child should learn. Apartheid, segregation, bullying and discrimination were daily events. A sketchy knowledge of God came from reading children’s Bible stories. The riots came to a head. Dad was injured and the decision to leave South Africa was made. They settled in the Northern beaches of Sydney and Andrew attended a Catholic school. Life settled down again. Australia was vastly different—from the styles of clothing to young groups partying and living ‘the good life’. Andrew at 15, took his first foray into drugs and alcohol and became part of the ‘in’ crowd. It was rebellion with a capital ‘R’. His health deteriorated as he continued to punish his body with substances. Now and then he would ask God, “Who are you?” “Are you Real?” But the downward spiral continued. He was asked to leave home and embarked on an acting career. What he witnessed during the filming of ‘The Matrix’ in Sydney will keep you on the edge of your seat.
