PROFESSOR TINYIKO MALULEKE (PRETORIA STUDIOS) – ADVISOR TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA ON INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY WITH A SPECIAL FOCUS ON AFRICA.Professor Tinyiko Maluleke, a respected academic and well-known social and political commentator on South African, African and global politics, joined the University of Pretoria as Professor in African Spirituality and Culture in the Faculty of Theology during November 2014. He will also serve as assistant to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal in the advancement of the University’s strategy for Africa. Prof Maluleke, who is proficient in most of the official South African languages as well as in French, brings with him more than 20 years of experience as a leading researcher and has held numerous leadership positions in South African universities. He has supervised more than 10 PhD students to completion, published over 80 peer reviewed articles and written dozens of popular articles on critical issues facing society today. He is an NRF B-rated researcher and is also a member of the South African Academy of Science.Prof Maluleke previously served at Unisa in various capacities, initially as a lecturer and, after a stint as Associate Professor at the University of Natal prior to the merger, as Professor of African Theology. Thereafter he was Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Deputy Executive Dean of the College of Human Sciences, Executive Director for Research, and Deputy Registrar.He took up his appointment at the University of Pretoria on 1 November 2014 after relinquishing his current position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Internationalisation, Advancement and Student Affairs at the University of Johannesburg.
