She also holds various directorships and trusteeships in organizations registered in South Africa and abroad holds.Her directorships include the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre (Pty) Ltd, a post-graduate teaching hospital; Sphere Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a black empowerment company focused on the financial services and mining sectors; and The Synergos Institute Southern Africa which addresses global poverty and social injustice by bringing together government, business, civil society and local communities.The Wendy Appelbaum Foundation initiates, selects and drives programmes addressing the health and education concerns of South African women.Wendy is a Trustee of The Donald Gordon Foundation, one of the largest private charitable foundations in Africa and The Helen Suzman Foundation which works to strengthen South Africa’s democracy. She is a member of The Women’s Leadership Board of Harvard University’s John F Kennedy School of Government.She is a Donor Advisory Committee Member of Women Moving Millions which inspires gifts of one million dollars and above towards women’s funds globally.Wendy belongs to the Global Philanthropists Circle, a network of leading philanthropists contributing their time, influence and resources to fight global poverty and social injustice.Wendy was honoured in 2006 as one of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World.
