Introducing Inside Voice Podcast - with Martha's Mind

from Inside Voice with Martha's Mind · host Martha Norris

Who is Martha? What's on her mind? Martha's Mind is a blog created back in 2017. Thanks for making your way to find me. One thing to note about me, I am always learning through each time I sit down and write; writing has just been one way to express how I am processing this journey. At 24 years old, I have been through some tricky rings of life; anxiety-driven childhood meant missing precious adolescent moments of fun to be replaced with counselling and consoling by my mom as her full-time job. Eating disorder driven by the imperfections of me missing out on my teenage years coupled with unconfident and depressive episodes. To moving to university (which was never thought as a possible choice so major claps here!) as I suffered the pitfalls of overcoming one eating disorder to fall the other way on the spectrum and develop another one. Did I mention I am diagnosed with Autism and I lost my father in a tragic and unexpected road accident whilst finishing my degree during COVID. It’s a lot. You can see why I have become dedicated to becoming best friends to my mental health. Because she is always going to try and protect me from the things that happen to us. But I will admit, I don’t always know how to get it right. Hence why I write, (and now make a podcast) I’ve been writing about mental health since 2017. It merely started as a way of just expressing my current situation and from that I felt less alone. I have built confidence with mental health conversations; to say ‘ I’m not okay’. It’s not easy, but it’s the heaviest weight you’ll ever lift off and put down. My mind is both an old friend of mine but also someone who I have just met; I get to learn so much about myself as well as put in practises of things that work for me and my head. I hope this is a place where things will resinate or speak the truth that maybe hasn’t been easily expressed to you before. That’s just my mind and I x
