Is FIFA Killing Football? The Shocking Greed Behind World Cup Prices
from The SatsMate Stack · host Paul SatsMate
Hey SatsMate Stackers, You don't have to look far to see how much greed surrounds the World Cup. It is crazy to think about how something as innocent as a global football festival has now become a multibillion-dollar conglomerate industry. Yes, the games are entertaining, yes, the tensions are high, but now more than ever, you can feel that they are really trying to stretch every opportunity for more money. Whether it is the sponsorships, the dreaded hydration breaks, or something as simple as the seats/beverages, it has gotten out of control! Specifically in this podcast, I go over the following: I’m a huge Futbol fan, and It's something I have really enjoyed watching over the past decadeThis year, my eyes are extra aware of all of the corrupt stuff going on with this game - and what can be done about itDynamic ticket pricingFifa creating artificial scarcity and taking large cuts when buying and selling on the platformMany didn’t receive the tickets they wantedTickets often were going for thousands of dollars, even though when you watch some of these matches, 10-20% of the seats are purely emptyManipulation to get higher prices from people! Greed at the finest - the people's game, a game where you just need a Futbol, is now something that only the elite can see due to neck-snapping prices Large prices on food and drinks - if you are an American, you are used to those $20 beers, but for those who have a weaker currency, it is painful to buy simple concessionsParking, transportation, and everything are expensive. FIFA didn’t subsidize anything at all, even though they could haveThose hydration breaks have gotten seriously annoying, and it is all to get more commercial time, which means more money from sponsors Certain companies couldn’t use their brand at the stadium (like Heinz, for example), cause they didn’t pay. Everything needs to be paid and transacted Sponsors across every wall, and it is being front and center. I think FIFA is thinking about the commercial actors, and less about the supporters, more than ever Just because they are not for-profit is ridiculous. Where is all this money going? $10-50M dollar salaries? Technically, if they pay these high salaries, they can have a $0 profitHuge price gouging at nearby hotels and venues - essentially corporate greed I think the big solution to this is having a challenger to FIFA come upWhen one player gets too big, it is key to get more competition in place to get them in lineWhen their power goes unchecked, they can do anything literally We need less greed-driven exploitation and more of a unified global festivalIf you like this, feel free to share it, leave a like, or comment.
