Luminary and legand died at 95 years old. Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, Iyengar is a type of Hatha yoga practice where the focus in on alignment as well as the union of body, mind and soul. This style has a strong emphasis on detail, precision, PROPS! (blankets, blocks, bolsters, straps, walls, chairs…even gauze) and alignment in the performance of posture, and breath control. Poses are held for long periods and often modified with props. This method is designed to systematically cultivate strength, flexibility, stability, and awareness, and can be therapeutic for specific conditions to break barriers and become free from disease. Iyengar never retired. ‘I am a student of yoga,’ he would repeatedly explain and spent over eighty years revisiting the first principles of the vast subject that is yoga.
