Jan Carpman - Author - "Directional Sense"

from The Boomer and The Babe Radio Network · host Deborah Louise Brown

Jan and her partner are authors of a new book called "Directional Sense: How to Find Your Way Around," a friendly guide for directionally challenged people: those who admit not being able to find their way without a trail of breadcrumbs. Directional challenges occur in every age group, boomers included. Seeking personal growth, some boomers may choose this phase of life to learn or refresh important life skills – like good directional sense - that have previously escaped them. When people retire, they may travel more and good “way finding” skills can help make travel more pleasant and less stressful. When women are on their own, as a result of divorce or widowhood, they may need to take on the skills they formerly left to their husbands. Personal navigation may be a new adventure for them. Navigation is one aspect of the ubiquitous available technology, from smart phones to GPS. Sharpening your directional skills will help you use this technology to your advantage (keeping up with your kids and grandkids) and know how to cope when it doesn’t work.
